Boy Problems- Tour EP

Genre: Chill metal, screamo

I saw these guys play with Algernon Cadwallader at a farm in Tennessee last year, and it was awesome. I just remembered them and downloaded this EP, which isn't great quality and doesn't capture the energy they have live, but is pretty good. Picture Algernon with screaming, i guess.

Bygones- By-

by-

This is the album cover of the Bygones album, By-, which is Nick Reinhart from Tera Melos and Zach Hill from Hella. And yes, that is Amber Coffman from the Dirty Projectors, who I have a serious crush on, eating a messy burger on the cover. It's like they took everything good and stuffed it onto one album.

Grizzly Bear- Veckamisest (?)

Genre: indie, rock, epic

Sorry, I'm too lazy to figure out how to spell the title, haha. I could never get into Grizzly Bear's other stuff, it just seemed unfocused to me, but this CD is really, really good. Every song songs different, with some latin influences, some rockin' moments, etc. A children's choir is featured on a few tracks, and it is truly epic.

If you've never given Grizzly Bear a shot, try this album out. I think you will be surprised.

O LUCKY MAN!- When I Was Young I Would Type Your Name Just to See It in Front of Me

Genre: math rock

Best math rock i've heard in quite a while. Sounds like a more melodic Tera Melos, but not quite as mathy. Vocals round out a very unique sound.

Alarma Man- S/T

Genre: math rock, post-punk

Math rock band from Sweden that reminds me a little of These Arms Are Snakes, but wankier. A little like Rumah Sakit. Check it out.

Two entries in one day! man. that's what spring break will do to you.

Colour- Unicorns EP

Genre: math rock, pop

Housekeeping: I hate comparing bands to other bands because then if you don't like band A, you assume you won't like band B. So I'm going to just list some vague genres at the beginning of each entry to give you an idea if you want to try it out or not.

Actual entry: I downloaded this EP on a whim and it turned out to be really good. Very melodic and poppy for math rock, but still with some awesome out-of-nowhere hooks and time changes. Right up my alley. Check it out if you like Cats^3, This Town Needs Guns, O! the Joy, etc.

Bonnie "Prince" Billy and Cheyenne Mize- Among the Gold

Collaboration of covers from the years 1874-1913. Pretty cool idea, unique sound too with the blend of old-timey vocal lines and folky quitars. Listen to two songs here:

It's on limited edition vinyl, so if I find the full CD I'll be sure to post it.

Maps & Atlases- Pigeon

New Maps & Atlases song from ifyoumakeit.com. It's tight. Half the video gets cut off for some reason, but all you need is the audio, really.
