BONUS ROUND

Jimmy Bruno's rendition of "Giant Steps" is utterly stupifying to me. Listen at least to 1:12 when the drums come in if you are not into solo guitar jazz.

Pluvial - "for cast for give"

Hey looky here a bass/drum duo....you know how those can be, except this is not like that at all. No sir. Ok for starters, this is a fantastic recording. The bass tone really rumbles yer tummy in a soothing manner. Each drum hit crackles and sparkles perfectly. Oh and the music is real good too. Its not dull and repetitive. Its not noisy or spazzy either.

Apparatjik

Genre: electronic pop, supergroup

Just found a new supergroup that I'm pretty pumped about. Members of Mew, Coldplay, and fuckin' AH-HA. Sounds a lot like Mew but glitchier and heavier. You can listen to most of their new album at the myspace.

Muhsinah - "Daybreak 2.0"

How do you feel about an experimental RnB album? There are two particularly interesting little facts to state about Muhsinah. The first is that she graduated from the Duke Ellington School of the Arts and of Howard University, and the second is that she both performs and produces her own music. She happens to be ridiculously sick at doing both of these things. The opening intro "A.M." into "Construction" pretty much sets the tone for the whole album. Summer's basically here kids. Here's a little package of good vibes to get it started with.

A Mathrocky One

Carson Mcwhirter "Every Body tour EP"

Players: Tony Schatz, Joey Hyland, Andrew Weaver, David Zeidman, and Carson McWhirter

This guy is probably most widely known for his short stints playing bass with Hella and the Advantage, but he is instrumentally multitalented and is involved in writing, recording, and performing with a wide variety of projects. This is a 3 song ep of recordings made for a brief tour by a group of people assembled by Mcwhirter to play under the moniker "Every Body". It rules and has sick ass guitar/piano playing over complex, lurching drum rhythms. I like it a lot. Maybe you will too.

Caddywhompus- Remainder

Genre: experimental, noise pop

Photobucket

We'd played a show with these guys a while back, and I am really excited to find their CD. Think Animal Collective meets Algernon Cadwallader. Very full and complex sound for a two-piece. Highly recommended.

I'm loving the new Horse Feathers CD, and this Daytrotter session features some of the new songs as well as some old favs. Good quality and great musicianship.

Little Brother - "The Chittlin Circuit"

Some of the best sample based rap ever. If you are in to good rappers rapping over beats composed primarily of soul/retro sample hooks, then this is your album.

The Man Suit

Genre: folk rock, indie rock

So there's a new supergroup in town. Dr. Dog, mewithoutYou, parts of Elvis Perkins' band, and various other super talented folks are involved. The song isn't amazing, but it is pretty cool. I greatly prefer Aaron's yellin to his singin, just FYI. A happy summertime jam though.
