Pianos Become the Teeth- Old Pride

Photobucket
Genre: screamo, indie

Topshelf Records was kind enough to send over the new release from Pianos Become the Teeth called "Old Pride," and I'm really enjoying it. It's kind of a mix of old screamo stuff and newer wave emo like Castevet and Native. Give it a shot if you like a little aggression in your indie. They only let me put up three tracks, but the whole album is enjoyable.

Also, look up the lyrics, they're pretty great.

Jaga Jazzist - "One Armed Bandit"

Though I doubt they'll ever top their album "what we must" (for purely nostalgic reasons honestly =]), this shit is pretty much blowing me away right now.. The tracks with the most initially high awesome factor are probably "prognissekongen" "book of glass", and "music! dance! drama!", but the a slew of amazing feelings awaits anyone who spends the time needed to properly digest the entire album.

If you dig any of this, do yourself a favor and check out their album "what we must".

Four Tet- There is Love in You

Genre: smooth beatz

You can stream the entire new Four Tet album at the link below. I haven't made it all the way through, but it's pretty awesome so far. If you liked Rounds, I think you'll be pleased.

New Gorillaz Single- "Stylo" (feat. Mos Def & Bobby Womack)

Photobucket
Genre: trip-hop, pop

I have to admit that I liked Demon Days quite a bit, and I am somewhat excited for this album. This single isn't their best work, but I think it deserves mentioning. The singing is ridiculous, almost to the point of ruining the song, but it kinda fits. I guess.

Ghosts and Vodka- "Gameshow Buzzer"

Not quite what I expected, but I still like it. Watch out for that jaw dropping riff. You'll know the one;)

David Bazan- Live at TT the Bears 9/20/2009

Genre: indie rock, songwriter

Pretty high quality live set with a full band. Worth a listen if you enjoyed the new Bazan CD or any of the Pedro the Lion stuff.

Hexlove - "Harp Drafts"

Looped harp clips and smooth pulsing drones with brilliant drum improvisation over the top. Its nearly unbelievable how beautifully this combination has been pulled off here.

Animals as Leaders- S/T

Photobucket

Genre: math metal, math rock

Ex-guitarist from Reflux, which was an awesome band. Instrumental two man math metal with some super pretty parts and some super mathy parts. Thanks to Daniel for turning me onto them. Don't be turned off by the metal... it's really good.

-Dirty Projectors- Bitte Orca
-Pretend- Bones in the Soil, Rust in the Oil
-The Appleseed Cast- Sagarmatha
-Mew- No More Stories are Told Today...
-Phoenix- Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

Honorable mention:
-Phosphorescent- To Willie

-toe- For Long Tomorrow

*Sam

----------------------------------------------------------

hmmmmm.....

Mouse on the Keys - "An Anxious Object"
Pretend "Bones in the soil....."
Toe - "For Long Tomorrow"
Prefuse 73 - "Everything She Touched Turned Ampexian"

ummmm....

4 is about all I can think of really. Bit of a dry year. Bitte Orca i'll give an honorable mention for the 2 songs I liked on it. His voice is pretty much annoying as shit to me after much more than 10 or so minutes though.
