pretty sweet, with the exception of some really really bad guitar solos.

yeah, i agree with you there. i think the world has musically moved past guitar solos, other than jam bands.

i wouldn't necessarily say that. theres just a very stark difference between someone who knows how to improvise on a guitar and someone who flails around aimlessly.

well definitely, but even in that realm, you can have someone who is super good at guitar but thinks a flailing, discordant solo fits the song or makes him stylistically different. i just don't see what solos particularly accomplish within an actual song. like... i don't know how to say it. they don't convey anything to me for the most part. like... it's just filler or show offing 99% of the time it seems.

like all music, it is a matter of subjective opinion;)

what i mean is that there are people who can shift with nuance in and out of a chord progression with beautiful melodic sensitivity like john scofield or wes montgomery. it is an art form unto itself.

I didn't notice any horrible solos. This album is still blowing my mind a week later...start to finish.
